Dorchester Poverty Action at their recent Open Meeting thanked Dorchester Town Council for their grant of £500 towards school uniform. Last financial year £3,000 was distributed in DT1 and DT2 postcodes to help families struggling to afford school shoes and uniform, especially when a child is moving up to a new school. In the first 6 months of this year DPA has already distributed £2,200 for school uniform. Families are referred by a social worker, health visitor or school welfare officer for the financial support. Wendy Hilton, Chairman of DPA, said “It makes a huge difference to a child’s confidence when going to a new school that they have the correct uniform and feel the same as their peers.”
